Summer is caftan season. Caftan, kaftan—however you spell it, nothing beats the heat like this classic cover-up gone couture.
In a recent June 17 feature, Vogue declared, "Call it a summer rite, but every year, a nostalgic fashion item makes a grand return to our wardrobes. This season, it’s all about the caftan.”
To beat the heat, my designing sister Katherine and I decided to whip up a few new caftans for our own summer wardrobes.
Shown above, Katherine created hers with a self-drafted pattern using Nisha, a 100% Indian cotton from our Ikat Edit. Shown below is the Minimalist Kaftan dress pattern available from The Assembly Line made with Kew Garden, a mixed-motif Italian cotton panel print from NYC fashion house Zero + Maria Cornejo.
