To be sure, not all Italian designers like to walk on the wide side. Houses such as Armani, Loro Piana, Max Mara, and Valentino have been cornerstones of classic couture for decades. Even the beloved bespoke British brand Liberty of London produces its trademarked Tana Lawn cotton print in Italy.
