It’s an open secret that the Tilton Sisters love trendspotting. So I’m always happy to bring you subscriber specials on fabrics like Shadow Plaids you’ll find in the current collections of top designers.
"Plaid, it seems, is everywhere...a playful plaid explosion for 2025" — VOGUE
"To no surprise, plaid is poised to rise in popularity this fall (once again)." — MARIE CLAIRE
Shadow plaid (sometimes called shadow check or ombré plaid) is a variant of the classic plaid pattern where the intersecting stripes have blurred or gradient edges. Instead of being sharply defined, the lines meld into each other, giving the pattern a muted, “shadowy” appearance.
It often looks like a gentle fade or wash across the fabric. This style offers a more understated, softer vibe compared to crisp, high-contrast plaids—making it popular in relaxed, vintage-inspired, or artisanal clothing lines.
Shown above is Closet Core Jenna made with Ninja Indigo, and below is Vogue 1970 made with an out-of-stock shadow plaid very similar to the one featured in today’s special.
This pair of Shadow Plaids is made of 100% Japanese cotton in a light, airy shirting weight. I love them, and hope you do too!
