It takes approximately 2500 silk worms to produce one pound of raw silk. Each individual cocoon is made of a single silk thread that can measure up to one mile long. Silk is also the strongest natural filament on earth. If you scaled a single silk thread up to the size of a steel beam, silk would be stronger.
Yet somehow silk also magically manages keep us warm in the winter and cool in the summer—all while delivering unrivaled softness, shimmer and sheen. Thanks to modern microscopes we can see that silk strands are in a unique triangular prism-like structure that refracts incoming light at different angles, giving silk its signature shimmer.
