Hello Sewing Friends!
Today I am happy to bring you a Saturday Special on a curation of holiday fabrics featuring new velvet deadstock and more. Shop MARCYTILTON.com today (November 11) and enjoy 20% off all fabrics in the HOLIDAY COLLECTION.
Shown above is a Marcy-made version of Vogue 1970, my new vest and jacket pattern made with SAMANTHA DOT, a beautiful taffeta featuring elegant flocked dots. The same fabric is also available on a gorgeous garnet ground as ABIGAIL DOTS. The pattern is available now on Simplicity.com.
Another notable not to miss is MARIANO, an exquisite silk velvet featuring a beautiful baroque bronze metallic design. I would be shocked if this fabric is not from Fortuny. I shopped at Fortuny in Paris earlier this year and saw strikingly similar fabrics for sale there for €450 per meter.
We can’t be 100% sure that this fabric came from Fortuny because the chain of custody was broken along the way to LA fashion district where we found it. However, the discovery of this gem does offer an opportunity to share a bit more with you about the history of velvet and Venice.
Family-owned Fortuny is the oldest working factory in Venice, a fabled Italian city that has produced silk velvet since the late Medieval and early Renaissance. Venice imported silk from the East before Marco Polo, but it is thanks to the arrival of 300 asylum-seeking weavers from Lucca in the 1300s that Venetians learned how to loop, warp, and cut silky-smooth threads into a dense, velvety pile.
You’ll find a sumptuous selection of plush velvets and many more holiday-forward fabrics on sale today in the HOLIDAY COLLECTION featuring exclusive designer deadstock available only on MARCYTILTON.com.
Happy Sewing!
