Jacquard's namesake is Joseph Marie Jacquard who invented a loom which was essentially the world’s first computer because it had the power to program patterns previously painstakingly sewn by hand.
Thanks to this legendary loom, jacquard is the unsung heroine of haute couture and increasingly finding its way into prêt-à-porter lines. You’ll find jacquards showing up in current collections everywhere from Banana Republic to Bergdorf Goodman.
