Bonjour from Paris!
Today I am happy to bring you some new additions to the EMBROIDERY & EYELETS COLLECTION.
Evidence of embroidery can be found as far back as 30,000 BCE in the form of heavily hand-stitched and decorated fossilized clothing. From there its lineage winds from ancient China through the Middle East to the Viking Age and finally Europe where it became a symbol of wealth and power.
By 18th century England, exquisite hand embroidery became a prerequisite skill for girls of noble birth marking their rite of passage to royal womanhood. With the Industrial Revolution came the advent of embroidery machines, and by the turn of the 20th century, mail order catalogs put the once and future fabrics within reach of the emerging middle class masses.
Today high tech mills produce evermore intricate embroidery for top fashion houses. In our EMBROIDERY & EYELETS COLLECTION you will find a carefully curated selection featuring designer deadstock available only on MARCYTILTON.com. Stay tuned tomorrow for a new selection of eyelets!
Happy Sewing!
