Milan wasn't always the respected fashion capital it is today. Around the second half of the 20th century, Moda Italiana, or Italian fashion, finally became recognized for its attention-to-detail and innovative design. Before that, Paris was the main city for all things fashion.
After World War II, Italy's textile industry flourished, and new designers began to emerge. This birth of the peace-time Italian fashion empire saw the rise of many mega brands that are household names around the world to this day.
Italian fashion in the '80s and '90s became known for its maximalist aesthetic. Designers of the day redefined fashion by introducing elements that were bold, sleek, and elegant. Over the past 20 years, a new generation of Italian designers have reinvented classical fashion houses, and Italian style continues to shape the fashion world today.
And finally, for fans of the KANTHA collection, I am happy to announcing a KANTHATHON all weekend from April 9-10 when we will release over 100 new artisan kantha shawls and quilts in both cotton and silk.
