Today I am happy to bring you the first of a new batch of beautiful LIBERTY TANA LAWNS. In the sewing world the name Liberty needs no introduction. The bespoke British brand has worked with mills in Italy for over 100 years to perfect its trademarked Tana Lawn cotton shirting that looks and feels like silk. While there many be many mills that make cotton lawn, none rival the renowned fine-grained cotton you’ll find in our LIBERTY COLLECTION.
Taking a nod from RTW shirts using Liberty fabrics that retail in the $900-$1100 range, we created our own version. The only thing better than one Liberty print is combining a grouping of Liberty prints in one garment.
As an experiment, we cut one yard of five different prints for this shirt. Katherine is a master at the art of combining prints in one garment as well as deciding the placement. She played with possibilities, then pinned the selected print to the pattern piece.
Katherine’s shirt pattern Butterick 6771 is perfect for this project as it has a number of pattern pieces that lend to the blending of different designs. After the shirt was cut, there is enough fabric left to make another entire garment.
Shown above we used Encanta, Lotus Land, Adonis Blue Butterfly, Meadowland and Pink Lady Slipper. These are exceptional fabrics that have stood the test of time and trend for over a century. Add some to your stash today!
